(WGGB) — The jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing has hit an all-time high.
The top prize is now $600 million, surpassing Powerball’s previous record jackpot of $587 million on November 28, 2012.
With the cash option, the winner can take home an estimated $376.9 million.
The Powerball jackpot has ballooned after 13 consecutive drawings have occurred without a top winner.
Mass. Lottery spokesperson Beth Bresnahan says that in Massachusetts, tickets are selling at a rate of $6,000 per minute, and Friday alone, over $1.2 million in tickets have been sold.
Bresnahan adds that it’s expected that lottery retailers will sell as much as $24,000 in tickets per minute in the peak hours leading up the drawing, which will happen Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
Tickets in Massachusetts can be purchased until 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
