Electrical Malfunction Eyed as Cause of Pine Street Fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Investigators believe they have determined the cause of a large fire that heavily damaged a Six Corners home Friday morning.

Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, told ABC40 firefighters were called out at 1:37 a.m. for a fire at 187 Pine Street.

Flames were shooting from a two-story two-family house at 187 Pine Street when our ABC40 photographer arrived.

Leger adds that it appears the fire started between the first and second floors, and was a result of some sort of electrical malfunction.

One firefighter was transported to an area hospital after complaining of chest pains, but Leger says that person’s condition is not immediately known.

The fire caused about $80,000 in damage.
