Cultural Group Performance Raises Money for Immersion Trip

EAST LONGMEADOW (WGGB) — It was a night of culture, drums and dancing Saturday night at Saint Mary’s Church.

The Wofa Drum and Dance Company consists of students from the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts School, who held the concert to raise money for a cultural immersion trip.

The groups founder, and teacher at PVPA, Kabisko Kaba hopes to take his students to his home country of Guinea, West Africa in January of next year.

He and the 14 students hope to raise almost $30,000 for the trip to study drumming, dance, language and culture.

The group spreads cultural knowledge throughout the community, through performances and work shops at local schools and camps. The Wofa name means “let’s get together” in the Sousou language.
