Lightning Strike the Cause of a House Fire in Shelburne

SHELBURNE, Mass. (WGGB) — A home in Shelburne caught fire this evening when a tree on the property was struck by lightning and fell onto the house during the severe thunderstorm that rolled through earlier.

Emergency personnel received the call at about 6:00 p.m. tonight.

At the time all of Franklin County was under a Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Service.

The single-family home is located at 220 Colrain Shelburne Road.

Our crew who went to the scene has learned that no one was injured in the incident.  It’s also believed that no one was home when the fire started.

We spoke with a public information officer there and they confirmed for us that the fire was ultimately caused by a lightning strike.

ABC40’s Mike LaCrosse will have more on this story during our 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts tonight.
