SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Law enforcement paused Wednesday morning to remember those officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Under cloudy skies, the Western Mass. Chiefs of Police Association held their 25th annual Memorial Day ceremony on the grounds of Springfield Technical Community College.

Members of law enforcement from the four Western Mass. counties gathered to pay their respects to about 4 dozen names enshrined on a monument on the STCC campus.

Fallen officers were honored with the monument because they lost their lives protecting others.

4 more names have been added including Springfield Officer Kevin Ambrose, who was killed responding to a domestic violence dispute last year.

ABC40 spoke with his son, Kyle Ambrose and he told us, “We just support each other. We have a great deal of support from Springfield Police Department, from Western Mass. in general the whole state, country. With all that support, we are able to not necessarily move on, but adjust.”

Officer Kevin Ambrose continues to inspire his son Kyle who says he now wants to become a police officer.
