first wx severe-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The National Weather Service has canceled a tornado warning for Franklin County.

The warning was to remain in effect until 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, but was canceled around 6:15 p.m. as the storm cell moved east.

The warning was issued after doppler radar indicated that a severe thunderstorm was capable of producing a tornado.

Weather spotters reported to the National Weather Service that a rotating wall cloud was seen in Hawley and Greenfield, and a funnel cloud to the north of Whately was reported by a amateur radio operator.

However, as of 6:15 p.m., the National Weather Service indicated that there has been no confirmation of a tornado touchdown.
