Gaming Commission Won’t Rush to Choose a Western Mass. Casino Proposal

Gaming Commision Chair

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Tonight the chairman of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission talked about a timeline for a Western Mass. casino with the Economic Development Council of Western Mass.

The state gaming commission will have the final say on which casino will be permitted in Western Mass.

Commissioner Stephen Crosby says part of the process of choosing a casino proposal will be background checks on the developers.

He says he understands communities are eager for jobs, but this is a decision that can’t be rushed.

“The process isn’t fast, and furthermore it shouldn’t be fast. We’ve said we understand the need for speed, we’ll move as quickly as we can, but we won’t compromise integrity or thoroughness for speed,” notes Crosby.

He says the decision on a Western Massachusetts casino will be made by February.

Put it in Palmer, they are the only ones who want it near them. Spfld and west spfld are traffic nightmares, and we don’t want it here. Put it out in the sticks.
