Record Warmth Lasting Into the Weekend

Heat WaveSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Yesterday was day one of what could turn out to be four days in a row of 90 plus temperatures. If we do three in a row it will be our first heat wave of the summer. Our last heat wave occurred last August from the 2nd through the 5th. Yesterday we hit 91 but feel just shy of the record for May 30th which still remains 92 degrees.

Today will likely be the hottest day out of this stretch of heat with temperatures reaching into the middle 90’s. Today could be record breaking. We’re going for a high of 94 and the current record is 93. It will be close!

The records you see here are from The Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee where the official temperatures for the area are kept. The data goes back to the early 1940’s

Last year we had 21 days that reached over 90 degrees. In an average summer we have about 12 to 15 days of plus 90 degree readings

Stay Cool!
