SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — One night last Spring, Springfield Police say 23-year-old Edgardo Hernandez of Holyoke was spending the evening in Springfield’s Entertainment district. It wasn’t until closing time he caught the attention of officers on patrol.
“The officers were on the corner of Dwight and Worthington streets and they observed a fight in front of one of the bars down here on Worthington Street,” says Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
As officers approached, they noticed Hernandez in the center of the melee, standing over another man.
“He was using his foot and he was kicking him in the head and in the back,” says Delaney. “Officers moved in to make an arrest.”
Delaney adds, “He tried to place Mr. Hernandez into custody and as he did so, he turned and fought the officer.”
It wasn’t until several more officers came over that Hernandez was restrained and taken into custody.
“He was scheduled to go to trial,” says Delaney. “He didn’t show up for the trial, he’s in default.”
And on top of that, Hernandez is wanted on several other warrants, including some in other cities like Holyoke.
“We’re hoping somebody recognizes him,” says Delaney. “He’s got several outstanding warrants, presumed to be dangerous.”
