Springfield Police Investigate Carew Street Shooting

CarewCaution tape blocking off any entrance to Carew Street’s Cumberland Farms, as Springfield police comb the gas station moments after witnesses say a man was shot there early Sunday morning.

According to witnesses, after bullets grazed his head, the man took off in a car. Authorities finding him at a home on Phoenix St.

Living right across the street from Cumberland, Evelyn Rodriguez and Victor Marquez are still shaken up about it. “We heard several shots. Yeah, it’s very scary though because I have kids and everything. “I’m concerned for them, because if it happened right here across the street you have to be aware of what’s going on,” Rodriguez shared.

Some people at Cumberland Farms who couldn’t be on camera say they deal with dangerous situations similar to these every weekend. Those who live in the area have had enough of it. “It’s like that all around here. What else can you say? You can just walk down the street and like right now, you look at him wrong, you’ll get into a problem real quick. Either he’s going to stab you, shoot you, or fight you. That’s it.

Both Ortiz and Rodriguez are hopeful that this will lead to a change for the better. “We’ve just got to take all these guns off the streets. Tougher gun laws,” Rodriguez said. “More cops, more safety protocols, more everything around the city, everything will be fine,” stated Ortiz.

The man’s condition is unknown.

No further information was given on the suspect.

Springfield police are still investigating.
