GREENFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Police have found a man they say had not been seen since Monday.

They say they received a call from someone who knew his location, police checked on him, and he was safe and unaware people were looking for him.

Greenfield Police Sgt. Mark Williams says that 53-year-old Daniel Hamel, who is homeless, had been living near the Green River, between I-91 and the Franklin County Jail.

Tuesday, a friend spotted Hamel’s tent washed up downstream from it’s typical spot along the Green River, between I-91 and the Franklin County Jail.

That afternoon, rescue crews searched the river for Hamel, concerned that he too may have been swept away by the river.

After several hours, the search was called off after Hamel was not located.

Williams adds that the last confirmed sighting of Hamel was on Monday.
