Memorial Planned for Ex-Mass. Gov. Cellucci

cellucciBOSTON (AP) — The late former Massachusetts Gov. Paul Cellucci is being honored at the Statehouse, where he spent nearly a quarter of a century in public life.

Cellucci’s body will lie in repose in the Hall of Flags on Thursday following an invitation-only remembrance service in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Cellucci died at his home in Hudson on Saturday from complications of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

A Republican, he served as a state representative, state senator, lieutenant governor and governor from 1997 until 2001, when he resigned to become U.S. Ambassador to Canada.

Speakers at the memorial service will include Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick, former Republican Govs. William Weld and Jane Swift, and former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card.
