Graffiti Vandals Swipe West Springfield Family’s Cross
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Vandals hit the Overlook Drive neighborhood and leave a unique mark, graffiti in the shape of smiley faces. There are more than forty markings on trees, homes and cars.
“I just don’t know why somebody would do that,” said John Cannon, victim.
Cannon’s home has about 11 tag marks, but that’s not what’s bothering him.
“It’s got a lot of sentimental value,” said Cannon.
He’s taking about a special cross that marks the family’s pet cemetery. It was made by a neighbor. Cannon says it walked away the same day the markings showed up.
“My wife she gets upset about it, looking out at the emptiness of that little cemetery we have” said Cannon.
The family says they just hope whoever took the cross returns it to their yard.
Meantime, West Springfield are investigating who made the markings around the residential neighborhood on the morning of June 6th. They’re also working with East Longmeadow Police who have identified four suspects connected to markings done of several of their towns schools. Those markings also showed up on June 6th, according to police.
Anyone with information can call the West Springfield Police Department.
