SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — A big night for some local kids here in Springfield.
About a hundred people turned out for the certificate presentation for The Officials Club Youth Boxing Program.
It’s a free volunteer-based peace and character building initiative established by the Mayor’s Citywide Violence Prevention Task Force.
Now in its fourth season… it’s having a positive impact.
“It gets you off the streets. So you’re not out there selling drugs or getting situated with gangs on the streets where anything can happen,” said Juan Claudio, a 3 year boxing program member. “So it’s a good thing just to get off the streets.”
The boxing program teaches discipline, fosters teamwork, and instills character, focus and strategic thinking.
