Springfield Hosts 15th Annual Dads Make a Difference Parade

dads make a differenceSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (wggb) — The 15th Annual Dads Make a Difference Celebration kicked off at noon Saturday from the steps of City Hall.

The event is sponsored by The Greater Springfield Dads Make a Difference Committee who’s mission is to celebrate and support responsible fathering both by raising public awareness of the value of father involvement and increasing the visibility and utilization of services available to fathers.

In addition to today’s parade there was also the Super Dad/Super Man essay contest for students in grades 1-8 as well as arts and crafts, activities and refreshments.

According to studies by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, children that live with their married biological or adoptive parents are less likely to use drugs, experience educational, health, emotional and behavioral problems, or engage in criminal behavior than their peers with absent fathers.
