Wanted: Kevin Ortiz

CRIME FILES ortiz, kevin 6-20SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Springfield Police say drugs are behind almost all crimes committed in the city, which is why they’re quick to act when they learn where the drugs are coming from.

“Our narcotics officers conduct drug raids all the time, and they go after the major players that are dealing heroin and cocaine,” says Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.

Last summer, Springfield Police had a hunch 26-year-old Kevin Ortiz was one of those major players.

“He was controlling the drug trade on Niagara St. in the Hollywood Section of Springfield, and Kevin was the go-to guy for for heroin and cocaine,” says Delaney. “They did a thorough investigation, made several drug purchases before getting a warrant for Kevin.”

When Springfield Police showed up at Kevin’s apartment to conduct a drug raid one afternoon last July, they found plenty of people and drugs inside — just not the guy they were looking for.

“They got a lot of cocaine, a lot of heroin, money, c’s, packaging material, but Kevin wasn’t there when they did they drug raid,” says Delaney.

Springfield Police issued another warrant for Kevin’s arrest, but it’s been almost a year and officers have yet to track him down.

If you see Kevin Ortiz, call 9-1-1, or you can send police an anonymous tip.  Just text it to CRIMES or 2-7-4-6-3-7 and in the message type SOLVE and your tip.
