Conn. Teen Found After Going Missing After Crash

car crash

ELLINGTON, Conn. (AP) — An 18-year-old woman has been found on a hiking trail near where a car she had been driving crashed into a tree almost a day earlier.

State police issued a Silver Alert for Heather Smith of Ellington on Sunday after she left the scene of that accident. They say Smith disappeared into the woods after the car she was driving struck a tree off Tree Top Road at about 10:30 a.m.

Police used dogs and a helicopter to assist in a search, which also involved dozens of volunteers.

Police say Smith was found unharmed on a hiking trail in the Shenipsit State Forest at about 9 a.m. on Monday.

There was no immediate word on whether she would face any charges in connection with the accident.
