Springfield to Open Cooling Centers

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — With hot weather upon us, and forecast for much of this week, the City of Springfield is opening cooling centers for those looking for relief.

City officials want to remind everyone of that heat stress is dangerous, especially for the elderly, and preventative measures should be taken.

Some symptoms of heat stress include loss of appetite, lack of energy, fainting, and cramps

Residents are reminded to also mindful of their pets in this hot weather, as heat stress can affect them as well.

Cooling centers will be open at the following locations:

Mason Square Senior Center
439 Union St.
Tuesday, June 25th: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Riverview Senior Center
122 Clyde St.
Wednesday, June 26: 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Brightwood branch – Springfield Public Library
359 Plainfield St.
Tuesday, June 25: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Forest Park branch – Springfield Public Library
380 Belmont Ave.
Tuesday, June 25: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Liberty Street branch – Springfield Public Library
773 Liberty St.
Tuesday, June 25: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sixteen Acres branch – Springfield Public Library

Tuesday, June 25: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
