BOSTON, Mass. (WGGB) — After much speculation, the Celtics have formally announced that Doc Rivers is heading to Los Angeles.

In a brief statement released Tuesday, the team says, “The Boston Celtics announced today that they have allowed Doc Rivers to pursue a coaching opportunity with the Los Angeles Clippers.”

The Clippers add that Rivers will also serve as the team’s Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations.

In exchange for Rivers, the Celtics will receive a future first round pick from the Clippers.

Over nine season with the C’s, Rivers had a record of 416-305. He also led the team to the playoffs in several of those years, accumulating a record of 59-47 in the postseason.

The Clippers will introduce Rivers at a press conference on Wednesday.
