SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — One man is in the hospital and two others are in police custody after a violent robbery overnight in Springfield.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, officers were dispatched to the area of 751 Liberty Street just before 3 a.m. Tuesday for a reported assault with a handgun.

Officers located two robbery victims upon arrival. They say one of the victims sustained two gunshot wounds to the buttocks during the robbery.

The victims informed police they had been robbed by two men — one wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, the other wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Two subjects matching that description were located on Kendall Street a short time later.

The victims identified both men as the perpetrators of the robbery. One of the suspects also allegedly had the victim’s property in his possession.

Police say the gunshot victim was treated at Baystate Medical Center.
