Body Recovered from the Housatonic River

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Divers have recovered the body of a man swept under the river water and sucked into a drain.

Tuesday, emergency crews were called to the river, near the Mill Street Dam, when the man went under the water and became entrapped

Crews worked through most of the day Tuesday to try and free the man, but were unsuccessful.

Wednesday morning, Pittsfield Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski says that members of the fire department went back out to resume operations.

After efforts were made to slow the whirlpool that held the victim in place, Czerwinski adds that crews tried to remove the man from above the water.

That attempted failed, at which time, divers were put into the water and were able to recover the victim Wednesday afternoon.

The name of that man has not been released.
