Springfield Burger King Closed for the Night Following Fire

Burger King

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A manager at Burger King on Liberty Street in Springfield has been transported to the hospital and the restaurant has had to close for the night after one of their cooking appliances caught fire.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the business shortly after 8:00 p.m. Thursday.  Employees told our crew that a broiler caught fire, but they were able to knock it down with a fire extinguisher.

Shortly thereafter the Springfield Fire and Police Departments along with State Police arrived on scene to help bring the situation under control.

Another employee we spoke to says that their manager had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation because she was having trouble breathing, but it appears she will be okay.

No word on what caused the broiler to suddenly catch fire though.

The Burger King, located at 1395 Liberty Street, will remain closed for the rest of the night.
