The Runway Restaurant at Barnes Abruptly Closes

The Runway Restaurant ClosedWESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — The Runway Restaurant at Barnes Airport in Westfield abruptly closed Thursday.

An ABC40 viewer tells us the place has been completely gutted of everything including tables, chairs and equipment. The viewer says it was open for business yesterday because she ate there, but when she went back today with her gift certificate it was closed.

Barnes Airport confirmed the closing on its Facebook page saying, “There will be another establishment in the future. The sudden change came as a surprise to all of us here.”

The restaurant is owned by the B’Shara family who first began their food establishment endeavors in Springfield opening a sandwich and ice cream shop in 1945.

There’s still no word however, on why The Runway Restaurant & Lounge closed.

As a pilot and business owner with contacts at Barnes airport, I can tell you that it has become a very user unfriendly airport if you are flying ot working with anything smaller than a Gulf Stream jet. There has been a large exodus of small aircraft owners from Barnes to surrounding small airports.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the airport commission placed some outrageous roadblocks in the way of this business.
