Your Stories: How Much will the Casino Vote Cost and Who Pays?
Those were the questions posed by one ABC40 viewer during our initial “Your Stories” call in series.
Our Answer: Well, per the Massachusetts Gaming Commission statute, you must have a vote within 60-90 days after a host agreement is reached and finalized between the casino, like MGM Springfield and the city.
An agreement was not reached within the minimum 60 days before Tuesday’s special Senate election, so it was not possible to get on the ballot.
It’s going to cost the city $226,500 for everything from polls to police officers. That money, win or lose for the casino, though, will be refunded to the city by MGM Springfield.
