Lightning Strike Catches Attic on Fire at a Home in Pelham

LightningPELHAM, Mass. (WGGB) — A lightning strike caused a fire to start in the attic of a Pelham home on Harkness Road Friday night.

The Pelham Fire Department received the call at about 6:30 p.m.

Fire Chief, Ray Murphy told ABC40 the lightning strike, “Hit a tree and traveled over to the electrical lines, you can see the scarring, you can see where it hit the tree and took the bark right off.”

After the lightning hit the tree and power lines it got into the electrical wiring of the home at 57 Harkness Road and started a fire in the attic.

Chief Murphy says the homeowner called them after she came home and discovered the fire.

Firefighters responded quickly and were able to extinguish the flames shortly thereafter.

No one was injured in the incident.

Crews are now mopping up and making sure the fire is completely out.
