PELHAM, Mass. (WGGB) — After 173 years, the United Church of Christ in Pelham closed its doors with its final service this morning.
With just 36 active members attending regular services, collections dwindled to only $17,445 and struggled to meet the parishes $55,200 annual budget.
The difference between those collections and spending was drawn from investments which the church had, but that money is also running out.
The lack of funds led the church’s council, board of deacons, and board of trustees to close the church down.
Today’s final service began at 10 a.m. and was followed by a luncheon.
