Police: Springfield Man Raped, Threatened to Kill Ex-Girlfriend
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – A Springfield man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend and threatened to kill her and her son.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that early Monday morning, a woman went into police headquarters reporting that her ex-boyfriend, identified by police at 36-year-old Samuel Aponte of Springfield, forced his way into her home through a front window.
Aponte then allegedly went into the 38-year-old woman’s bedroom, threatened to kill her, and began to sexually assault her.
In the middle of the assault, Delaney adds that the victim’s 14-year-old son went into the room to try help her mother, when Aponte allegedly threatened to kill the teen and tied him up with an electric cord.
Aponte then continued his assault on the woman at knifepoint. Once he was done attacking her, Delaney says that Aponte reportedly told the victim not to call the police.
However, the victim quickly went to Springfield Police and told officers there what had happened. Delaney says that as officers were taking her report, Aponte allegedly showed up to the front of police headquarters and police ran out to arrest him.
Aponte was taken into custody and is facing several charges including aggravated rape, kidnapping, and threatening to murder.
The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Aponte was held over the weekend and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Springfield District Court.
