(WGGB) — Motorists are being urged to plan ahead for a busy few days on the state’s highways.
MassDOT projects that traffic congestion from the Fourth of July holiday is expected over the next several days, particularly Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
The agency adds that they will halt construction projects from noon Wednesday through Friday morning, in an effort to ease congestion.
The toll plazas along the Mass. Turnpike will be adequately staffed to deal with the influx of travelers.
For motorists heading to east to the Cape or points along I-93, Route 3, MassDOT suggests downloading the RideWise iPhone app, which will provide real-time data of traffic in those areas.
Before hitting the road, MassDOT interactive live traffic cameras are also available online for birds-eye view of the latest conditions.
Once on the road, you can also call 511 from a cell phone to check on current travel conditions on most of the state’s highways.
The state’s service plazas, along the Mass. Pike and other roadways, will also offer free coffee to travelers from 10:00 p.m. Thursday until 5:00 a.m. Friday.
