New England Aquarium Re-Opens Giant Ocean Tank

New England AquraiumBOSTON, Mass. (WGGB) — If you’re traveling to Boston any time soon you’ll want to check out the New England Aquarium while you’re there.

After ten months of being closed the heart of the aquarium its giant ocean tank is now open and better than ever.

The tank underwent over $17 million dollars in renovations and now houses over two thousand aquatic animals double what it had before the changes.

It also has a new reef modeled after the reefs in the Caribbean.

“It’s almost like taking a submarine and diving down into the most pristine coral reef in the Caribbean. You’re gonna basically see an underwater city of life that you’d never expect to see. And the thing that’s really cool is that for people that have experienced our tank before, we’ve made our windows bigger. We’re using glass, or an acrylic that’s even more clear than glass. The lighting is much better and we also have new exhibits that will help explain what’s on the reef,” says Tony Lacasse, spokesman for the New England Aquarium.

The reef is four stories high.

The top level is open water so you can look right down into the tank.
