On Thursday, the fears of Bruins fans were realized, when Seguin was traded to the Dallas Stars as part of a seven-player, blockbuster deal.
But, plenty of talent will be headed to Boston. The Bruins will receive: forward Loui Eriksson and prospects Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser and Joe Morrow.
In addition to Seguin, the Stars will also receive center Rich Peverley and defenseman Ryan Button.
Eriksson is touted as an underrated winger from Sweden, having scored 12 goals in the shortened regular season.
In addition to young prospects to help the Buins build for the future, they will also clear a considerable amount of cap room. With the trade, they avoid a total cap hit of roughly $9 million from Seguin and Peverley over the next few years.
In just his third season, Seguin had 16 goals and 16 assists for the Bruins, but was a disappointment during the playoffs. He scored just one goal during Boston’s run to the Stanley Cup finals.
