Your Stories: Abandoned Tornado Ravaged Building Update

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WGGB) — During our last “Your Stories” call in last month, one viewer asked what is happening with the old abandoned warehouse building on Park Street in Springfield.

ANSWER: It’s an old multi-story brick building that was badly damaged in the June 2011 tornado. After years of inactivity, work is underway at the site. It is owned by the same family that owns Red Rose Pizzeria, and for safety’s sake before something bad happens, owners are tearing it down. The vulnerable and dangerous parts of the property are particularly in the back of the building. What the future will bring for the site, though, remains to be seen as there are no long-term plans.

Now look across the street at 15 Park Street. Where 32 apartments remain vacant as the landlord has not made the place occupant ready in over two years of construction, permits and delays agreed upon by the City and their Housing “Court”. Two Years and it looks like it did in 2011. Good thing across the street wil be a parking lot. Wink Wink.?
