NEW YORK (WGGB) — Veteran shortstop Derek Jeter is set to return to the Yankees lineup Thursday against the Kansas City Royals, according to FoxSports.com. The 39-year-old has been out all year, after suffering a broken ankle in last year’s American League Championship Series.
Jeter completed a sub-par four-game stretch with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Wednesday, but felt good enough to be brought up.
The team says Jeter will play Thursday at either shortstop or designated hitter.
Jeter broke his ankle on Oct. 13 and had surgery to repair it. He played five spring training games, but a new break was discovered April 18.
