Local Walk/Race ‘Hunts’ for Cure

HOLYOKE, Mass (WGGB) — runners and walkers came out for a good cause today at the Holyoke Lodge of Elks.

It was a 5k walk and run to benefit the Huntington’s Disease society of America.

The more than three mile course went around the Ashley Reservoir.

Jennifer Gilburg organized the race in honor of her family members who have fought and died from this destructive disease.

“I started this race three years ago – a year after my father passed away way Huntington’s. My grandmother had it, my father, who have both passed away… and my brother is actively living with Huntington’s today. So this is a way to come out and start to raise awareness, raise money,” said Gilburg.

There was food and music set up for the runners following the race.

All of the proceeds will go to support research and treatment of Huntington’s Disease.
