HOLYOKE, Mass. (WGGB)– Homeless children are getting new school supplies thanks to donations from local people.
The 4th annual “STUFF THE BUS” campaign kicked off today with a collection site in the Holyoke Mall in front of the Target entrance. The school supply drive will benefit children in the the Agawam, Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, Westfield and West Springfield towns.
“Many children in our community facing homelessness do not have the basic things they need to go back to school,” said Dora Robinson, president and CEO of United Way of Pioneer Valley. “And we are thrilled to partner with Peter Pan Bus Lines to make sure each child has the tools necessary to star the year ready to learn.”
She added, “It’s those little things that appear to be little things that make a big difference so in September, they need to arrive with the supplies they need to be successful.”
On Tuesday, August 20 after the buses have been stuffed, volutneers from United Way of Pioneer Valley will distribute the filled backpacks to the children within the Agawam, Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, Westfield and West Springfield school districts.
