SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WGGB)– Local marinas opened again today after recent rains hit the area and left the quality of water murky with debris everywhere that could potentially damage boats and other water vehicles.

About twenty boats gathered on the marina at Brunelles Marina in South Hadley by mid-morning and the air was filled with excitement with people eating, playing on the beach, wake-boarding, tubing and jet skiing.

Don Perry was there with his family and told WGGB, “We’ve been trying to get out since early June but every weekend it’s either rained or the river’s been closed or at least the ramp… so today is our first time and we’re really looking forward to making up for it.”

The owner, Luke Brunelle Jr., talked about the financial impact the abundance of rain had on the marina.

“Yeah it hurts. we’ll do our best to make up. That’s part of doing business on the river. You take the good with the bad.” He added though, “You love to have days like today. This is what it’s all about. People are coming out to go use the river finally.”

Sportsman’s Marina in Hadley was also enjoying re-opening today.
