AMHERST, Mass (WGGB) — Several hundred people are taking the scenic route through Massachusetts this weekend… on foot.
It’s the mass dash – a 24 hour relay race from the Berkshires to Boston.
This evening… Runners hit the halfway point at UMass Amherst.
Teams of up to 12 are racing across the state to raise funds for a good cause… to fight cancer.
“The teams were up early this morning,” said Pauline Craven of the Mass Dash Race Committee. “Some teams started at 7. Some started at 10 o’clock and they are running all night long so they have to have the energy and the music and the team spirit to carry them to Boston because they will be tired.”
The Mass Dash started this morning and goes 200 miles across the state in 36 stages.
From the foot of Greylock Mountain all the way to Carson Beach in Boston.
In the past 3 years, runners have raise more than $325,000 for cancer research, and channel 40 is a proud sponsor of the event.
