State Hosting Program for Families New to Camping

Camper's BeachBOSTON (AP) — State officials are hosting a program that aims to get more Massachusetts families into overnight camping.

Starting this month, officials will hold a series of weekend events at state forests for families new to the overnight experience. They say the programs for beginner campers will teach skills including campsite setup, outdoor cooking, plant identification, fishing and archery.

State officials say the events, which cost $30 per family, are a way for family members to reconnect with each other and with nature.

The first program will be held in Baldwinville on the weekend of July 20, followed by events in Andover, Brewster and Otis.

Officials are advising interested families to contact Department of Conservation and Recreation officials in Boston.
