Man Wrestles Shark on Mass. Beach

sharkSCONSET, Mass. (WGGB/WCVB) — Anyone who goes on fishing trips knows, while there are no guarantees, the goal is to come back with a fish or at least a believable fish tale.

One fisherman in Nantucket had a tough time convincing anyone he managed to wrestle a seven foot shark; luckily he made sure he had some evidence.

Elliot Sudal is no stranger to sharks, he says he’s reeled in roughly 100 sharks in the past eight months on the South East coast. “It’s funny, a lot of people do it in Florida. It’s like a common thing down there. Then I come up here and do it and I’ve got news people calling me… it’s wild,” said Sudal.

On Sunday he hauled a seven foot sandbar shark right off Nantucket’s Sconset beach. He didn’t set out to catch a shark, he was just looking to get his hands on some bluefish.

Sudal recounts: “As I was reeling them in, I kept bringing in half a fish, with a big bite taken out of it. So I knew the sharks were there and they’re really close to shore… not to freak anyone out.”

Elliot got his hands on the shark and wrestled it for about 45 minutes on the beach, just long enough to take some photographs and a video.

The shark was released back into the water.

Bad man. 90% of the world’s shark population has been erased. the shark is being depleted faster than they can reproduce and this will upset the balance of the ocean’s ecosystems.
