Bar Surrenders License after Deadly Shooting

License CommissionSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – The Springfield bar where a man was shot and killed last night has agreed to close until August.

The Springfield License Commission held a hearing with Duck’s Place Thursday night to review the bar for a separate incident that happened last April.

In that case an employee allegedly assaulted a customer with a gun. The employee claims the customer tried to steal his car.

And then just after midnight Thursday morning a 24-year-old Holyoke man was killed on the bar’s outdoor patio.

The business which is located at 1146 State Street has now temporarily surrendered its license. A representative who went before the License Commission said that they would like to have an attorney present next time their license is reviewed.

The city is expected to hold that hearing on August 1.
