CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — In this extreme heat people who are hitting the road have different ideas on the best method to stay cool in the car.
“AC now that I have a car that has AC, but before hand it was windows,” said Cheryl Coucre, Springfield.
“The AC and the windows sometimes,” said Becca Megarry, Chicopee.
“I am a windows down guy,” said Raul Figueroa, Springfield.
But does using the air condition cost you more gas?
“In the older days it was a big issue and you could see the gas gauge move,” said Brad Leveillee.
Leveillee, owner of Brad’s Service Center, says technology is helping reduce this problem.
“Maybe half a mile to a mile a gallon, well worth the cost to stay cool and healthy,” said Leveillee.
The Chicopee auto shop was busy Thursday with people stopping in to recharge the freon for the AC system, according to Leveillee. He says the heat does take a toll on cars.
“You just have to keep an eye on your gauges and lights and use your car like you would no matter what the temperature is,” said Leveillee.
Tire pressure should also be checked because it can also change during the hot weather.
