WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WGGB) — Thursday marked the 78th birthday for Friendly’s and what better way to celebrate than to throw a record-breaking ice cream party.
This was no ordinary celebration
Friendly’s was on a mission to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest ice cream party ever.
Hundreds of people attended the invite-only event at the company’s Boston Road offices to try and beat the previous record of 740 people.
To break the record, they needed at least 741 people had to eat at least one scoop of ice cream in a 15 minute period. Also, at least three different flavor options had to be available.
In the end, 794 people attended, and the folks at Guinness confirm that a new record was made.
Not only enthusiastic about the results, the CEO of Friendly’s is proud of all the brand has accomplished.
“The Blakes started Friendly’s in 1935 with $500 that they borrowed from their parents and to see what Friendly’s has grown into today,” says John Maguire, the company’s CEO.
And always creating new memories, like today, a birthday party that is going down in the record books.
Friendly’s makes all of their ice cream right on the premises in Wilbraham.
