Monster Jam Truck Visits ABC40 Studios

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A very large visitor rolled into the ABC40 parking lot early this morning.

Thrasher, one of the most popular monster trucks on the circuit, showed off its muscle in advance of the Monster Jam at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Ask any kid or adult about why there drawn to monster trucks so much and the answer is usually pretty simple

“They’re loud, powerful, and destructive and every truck has its own character and image and the kids can relate to that,” says Pat Summa, who drives Thrasher.

Summa drives one of most popular monster trucks on the circuit – a Toyota pick up that’s anything but stock.

“Thrasher weighs about 10,000 pounds, has almost 1,400 horsepower. It gets the job done in a hurry and sometimes, you get in trouble out there with some of these big obstacles we have, but with 1,400 horsepower, it gets you right back out of it,” Summa adds.

Thrasher will be doing its thing next weekend at the Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut at the “Monster Jam” – a perfect showcase for all types of mammoth machines

“We get to show off. Every truck is different, in its own unique ways as far as what it’s capable of doing and what it’s specialty is. Thrasher loves doing the wheelies and hope to come out with three wheelie wins this weekend.”

Summa and his team brought Thrasher to the ABC40 studios. Getting it here was quite a sight.

“[You just didn't drive over on 391, did you?] No, we didn’t. We came in late last night and put the tires on…took about an hour to switch everything over.”

The event will be July 27 and July 28 at Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut.
