Body Found Inside Duffel Bag in Suffield

SUFFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Local and State Police in Connecticut are investigating after a body was found in a duffel bag Friday afternoon.

The discovery was made around 2:00 p.m. Friday, by two teenage hikers in the area of Phelps Road and Quarry Road.

Suffield Police say that the teens smelled an odor and went to investigate. That’s when they found the bag, about 20 feet off a trial in an area known as the Quarry Ridge.

“The duffle bag was kind of ripped and torn in one end and a plastic bag was covering the body at the time he ripped it open and discovered a human body inside,” said Suffield Police Chief Mike Manzi.

Conn. State Police are assisting Suffield Police with the investigation.

Investigators believe the body is that of a white male. However, no other identification was immediately available.

Police are now working with other police departments in Conn., as well in neighboring Mass.,

People who use the popular recreation area were shocked to hear of the investigation.

“Surprising of course you are always surprised when you hear something like that so,” said Mike Lussier, South Hadley.

“Normally we ride our bikes out here, it’s more of a family oriented place,” said ronnie Augeri, Suffield.

“This is scary to me because nothing happens around here,” said Tom Currier.

Anyone who saw something in the area is asked to call Suffield Police at 860-668-3870.
