SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WGGB) — A Southwick man has won $1 million off of a scratch ticket after he claims he opened a fortune cookie predicting he would come into gold.

William Johnson from Southwick is the latest lucky winner of the Massachusetts Millionaire Mania instant game from the Mass. State Lottery.

He recently bought the lottery ticket after he says he was out to dinner with his wife and a fortune cookie he opened contained the message, “You will soon come into a lot of gold.”

According to the Mass. Lottery, Johnson held onto the $10 ticket for several days before playing it and realizing he won a $1 million prize.  He has selected the cash option and received a one-time, lump sum payment of $650,000 (less taxes).

The winning ticket was sold at Colonial News located at 39 Southwick Street in Feeding Hills and will receive a $10,000 commission on the sale as a result.

There are two $3 million prizes and three $1 million prizes remaining in the Massachusetts Millionaire Mania instant game.
