SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A Springfield call center for insurance claims is closing and 135 employees are losing their jobs.

The call center for Innovation First Notice is located on Cadwell Drive in Springfield.

The center handles calls for insurance claims involving automobile accidents, property damage and worker compensation claims.

In a phone interview, Chief Financial Officer Lewis Miller says some bad storms in recent years on the East Coast and the threat of interrupted service prompted the decision to move the operation to Chicago.

“We have taken the decision we need to move away from the area that suffers the greatest impact from these storm events and we can offer our clients greater assurances,” says Miller.

And that says Miller is the assurance of 24/7 service, 365 days a year.

Meanwhile, the company says it will work with the 135 employees who are losing their jobs to try to find them work.

“We are getting a number of temp agencies in, recruitment agencies to help them with things like resume skills, workshops and to help them with career counseling,” Miller adds.

A total of 160 employees work at Innovation First Notice.

Of those 160 employees, about 25 work in a separate business unit from the call center. They will keep their jobs or work from home, according to Miller.

Closing the Springfield call center will take place over the next couple of months, according to Lewis.
