SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Regardless of the season, the need for food assistance is always there, and Western Mass. food pantries are in a similar need to keep those shelves stocked, so they can help.
That’s why ABC40 and The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts teamed up Wednesday to collect non-perishable items during the ABC40 Food Drive.
We asked you to grab a few extra items at the store, or from your pantries, and come down to our Springfield studios.
The turnout was simply tremendous. We were able to fill seven large bins, which, in total, equate to about 7,000 pounds of food!
That food will now be taken to the Food Bank’s warehouse, where it will be sorted and distributed to soup kitchens and food pantries across western Mass.
We also issued a challenge for you on Facebook. For every new ‘Like’ we received on our Facebook page between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m., ABC40 contributed $1 per like.
Between monetary donations collected on-site and your ‘Likes’, we were also able to collect about $375, which also went to the Food Bank, which will be put to good use.
If you weren’t able to make it today, monetary donations can always be made online. Please click here to donate.
