(WGGB) — Tonight, Belchertown’s Mary Poehnelt faced her toughest challenge yet, as she battled it out to win it all in the “Hell’s Kitchen” season finale.
The prize? Becoming head chef of Gordon Ramsay’s Pub and Grill at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
It all started many weeks ago, with twenty contestants.
Last week, Chef Gordon Ramsay announced that Poehnelt would be in the finale. Her opponent Ja’Nel was named the second finalist tonight in the first part of a two hour finale.
Their first challenge? To cook 5 courses in one hour in front of a live audience!
After four rounds of judging the two were tied and it all ended up coming down to their beef dishes. Ja’Nel took a risk while Mary cooked a more-tradition meal.
“I’m a girl who loves my meat. I did for you seared New York strip with seared polenta strips and carrots,” says Mary to Chef Ramsay. ”Technically the meat is flawless. Exceptional dish.”
But then Ja’Nel presented her dish and ended up taking the win in the first challenge.
A disappointing moment for Mary, but she still had her chance to take it all and walk away with the prize.
For the final service both chefs had to create their own menu and choose a team from previously-eliminated players. And while her team presented some challenges and setbacks Mary had a strong service impressing Chef Ramsay with her leadership skills.
But unfortunately it wasn’t enough.
Janelle was named the winner but we’re sure Mary has a bright future ahead of her.
