SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — This past April, police say four young women were helping out a friend by watching her 1-year-old daughter at an apartment on State Street while she was at the hospital giving birth.
Then at 1:30 that morning, their friends ex-boyfriend, 19-year-old David Rosado, decided to stop by.
“He was irate for some reason,” says Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney. “He tried to get into the apartment, they wouldn’t let him in — they stacked chairs in front of the door to block his entrance.”
Police say the chairs were enough to ward off Rosado, but not for long.
“About 10 minutes later he came back, but this time he didn’t knock — he kicked the front door in, knocking it off its hinges, sending the chairs flying,” says Delaney. “Once he got in there, he attacked one of the women right away, pulling her to the ground, punching her.”
Delaney adds, “Another woman came over to intervene — she got punched, and another girl got a laceration by the chair.”
Police say he then picked up another chair and flung it at one of the women, missing their friend’s 1-year-old child by mere inches.
“One of the ladies thought quickly on her feet, got to another room and distracted Mr. Rosado and while they did this, the other three grabbed the baby and they went out the back fire escape.”
Fortunately, one of the women was able to call 911 during the melee.
“Rosado was chasing them down the fire escape, police arrived, interceded and had to lock him up on the second floor of the fire escape,” says Delaney.
Rosado was charged with armed burglary, assault and battery, and child endangerment. But, he defaulted on those charges, which means officers are once again looking for David Rosado.
If you see David Rosado, call 9-1-1, or you can send police an anonymous tip. Just text it to CRIMES or 2-7-4-6-3-7 and in the message type SOLVE and your tip.
