CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Hundreds gathered on a cloudy Friday morning to say goodbye to a longtime judge and former mayor.
Hon. Robert Kumor Jr. passed away earlier this week from complications of ALS.
Kumor served as Chicopee’s mayor from 1980 to 1984. He would go on to serve in the Dukakis administration a Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Management, and as Assistant Secretary in the Executive Office of Administration and Finance.
In 1990, Dukakis appointed Kumor as a judge in the Springfield District Court. He went on to work in several of the western Mass. courts during his time on the bench.
Kumor retired from the bench in 2009.
Kumor, a lifelong resident of Chicopee, was laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chicopee with full military honors.
