NEW YORK (WGGB) — Derek Jeter has played one game thus far in the 2013 season, but Sunday could finally be his second.
The Yankees say the veteran shortstop will start on Sunday in the series finale against the Rays if he is feeling well enough.
Jeter played in a simulated game Saturday, the location of which was kept secret.
Manager Joe Girardi said the Yankees want Jeter to test his strained right quadriceps without interruption.
He sustained that injury in his only game back from a long recovery on July 11th. He was sent to the disabled list the next day.
